‘Tour the Moors’ in Minds and Miles Cycle Event
A forthcoming cycling event offers participants the chance to recreate their own Tour of Britain experience through the heart of the North York Moors National Park and Howardian Hills National Landscape, all while raising funds for charitable health projects.
The Minds and Miles cycle event, organised by the North York Moors National Park in association with Struggle Events, caters to cyclists of all ages and abilities.
Four diverse routes offer participants the choice between a 25km family-friendly, traffic-free route, a 50km gravel route, or more challenging 50km and 80km road routes.
Following the passage of Stage 2 of the Tour of Britain through the North York Moors National Park this week, this event provides a unique opportunity for participants to experience their own version of the tour in a safe and supportive environment.
The ride coincides with the National Park’s Mindful Month, emphasising the connection between nature, physical activity and mental well-being.
Proceeds from the ticket sales will support the North York Moors Trust, the event's chosen charitable partner. The Trust will receive a percentage of ticket sales to fund projects that connect people with nature and support mental health and wellbeing through art, recreation, and conservation. These include, Trust Treks - guided wellness walks in and around the North York Moors - and Stepping Stones to Nature, which supports the health, well-being and development of children by taking nature connection activities into primary schools on Teesside.
The event is scheduled for Sunday 29 September, starting and finishing at Sutton Bank National Park Centre. Ticket prices for the routes start from £20, which includes access to drink and feeding stations as well as a bespoke Minds and Miles participation medal.
Dominic Barry, Cycling Development Manager at the North York Moors National Park, said:
“The North York Moors is a special place to ride a bike and there is something for all abilities of cyclists to enjoy, whether you’re Tom Pidcock in the Tour of Britain or enjoying a family ride on traffic-free routes at Sutton Bank National Park Centre.
We are really excited to be working with the North York Moors Trust and Struggle Events to put on the Minds and Miles event and showcase the variety of opportunities for cycling, all while enjoying the company of friends, family and nature.”
James Metcalfe, Director of the North York Moors Trust, added:
“We rely on the generosity of individual donations to help power our projects that improve people’s mental health and wellbeing by connecting them with nature.
The Minds and Miles cycle event provides an active way for people to pedal with a purpose through the tranquil landscapes of the North York Moors National Park and raise funds to support our work.”
