About the Trust

The North York Moors Trust is an independent charity striving for a thriving, healthy and resilient future for local communities, people, and nature.

The North York Moors National Park is a unique place with special qualities recognised for its benefit to health, wellbeing, and development.

We work with people and communities within the National Park and surrounding areas such as Teesside and Scarborough to provide equal opportunity to access and connect with nature and enjoy the associated benefits.

Through those connections the Trust also promotes the importance nurturing our natural environment by empowering people to participate in projects that protect, restore, and enhance the North York Moors and the wildlife it supports.

The Trust works in partnership with others to deliver a range of innovative, inspiring, and educational projects and activities that fulfil the Trust’s ambition to support local communities and environment to thrive together.

History

In 2015 a legacy was left by the late Anya McCracken and Alan Smith. The Trust was established to provide sound financial stewardship of the legacy for the benefit of people and nature in the North York Moors. Since 2015 the Trust has worked hard to uphold that commitment, working with partners on a variety of projects to support nature and people to thrive.

In partnership with the North York Moors National Park Authority, the Trust helps manage Anya and Alan’s wood, Hawnby, North York Moors.

The North York Moors National Park Trust was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee on 6 November 2015 and registered as a charity on 25 November 2016.
