Non-Discrimination Policy.
The North York Moors Trust connects people and nature without prejudice.
Our Commitment:
As an organisation we value our trustees, employees, contractors, volunteers, and supporters equally, regardless of who they are or how they define themselves. We champion inclusivity and believe as an organisation we are stronger when we embrace diversity.
The Trust supports each individual, to the best of their ability and without fear or favour, to contribute toward achieving our aim of connecting people and nature, celebrating each contribution equally. We achieve this by ensuring all our projects and our day-to-day actions and interactions have fully considered and reflect the breadth of diversity and inclusivity we aspire to uphold.
The Trust recognises the benefit of developing our organisation so that it includes the many diverse skills and backgrounds available to us and will strive to become an organisation that recognises, values and understands diversity and provides our trustees, employees, contractors, volunteers and supporters with opportunities to improve.
We want everybody to feel respected, to give their best and reach their potential.
Our Responsibility:
Our approach is supported by legislation, as we aim to extend the same equal and fair treatment to all of our employees, volunteers and those who come into contact with the Trust.
The Equality Act 2010 says that we must not treat people unfairly because of age, disability, sex (gender), gender reassignment, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief, pregnancy or maternity, marriage or civil partnership. These are called “protected characteristics”.
We must;
stop unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation;
make sure that people have equality of opportunity whether or not they have a particular protected characteristic; and
build good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who don’t.
Any breaches of this policy are taken seriously by the organisation and we are committed to a zero tolerance approach. The Trust has both grievance and disciplinary policies in place.
Our approach is summed up by the following statement: We the Trust, our trustees, employees, and volunteers, respect people’s views, interests and uniqueness. We do not tolerate disrespectful behaviour towards each other, supporters or members of the public. This is underpinned by equality legislation and Trust policy.
